As part of the University Scholars Program in the University of Florida Center of Undergraduate Research, I conducted research on Climate Justice under the guide of Professor Vandana Baweja.
The building and construction industry as well as assosciated industries like material manufacturing, and building operations, are some of the top sectors contributing to greenhouse gas emissions, which are known to exacerbate climate change. Climate Justice take a human centered approach focusing on social implications, intersectionality, and inequalities assosciated with climate change hazards. Climate Justice Education is shown to foster personal connections, and make students more inclined to take action. In the design field this would help designers to understand their impact in contributing to climate change, and responsibility to take action. It is up to architectural, interior, and landscape designers to mitigate climate change through sustainable and resilient design.
I presented my research at the Undergraduate Research symposium in April 2024
