This project is a study of lighting condition through color. Lightboxes use color to explore lighting conditions at different angles.
This site was inspired by Peter Zumthor’s St Benedict Chapel inSumvitg Switzerland. Lightboxes were scaled to create an art museum program. A bright atrium serves as a circulation and entry space while its large scale sets the tone for viewing valuable art. The exhibition rooms feature indirect lighting to allow for optimal viewing and protection of the artwork. Archives underground protect undisplayed artwork. A connection to the secondary museum allows them to share resources and preserve history. Zumthors chapel lacks physical artwork, so the art museum serves as a place of history for the community. The proximity of the church and museum create a cultural center of the community.
